The American Board of Medical Genetics (ABMG) accredits training programs in Ph.D. medical genetics, clinical biochemical genetics, clinical cytogenetics and clinical molecular genetics.

The Residency Review Committee (RRC) of the American Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) accredits clinical genetics residency programs, as well as Molecular Genetic Pathology subspecialty programs (a joint subspecialty with the American Board of Pathology and the ABMG). For information on clinical genetics residency programs and Molecular Genetic Pathology subspecialty programs, visit the ACGME website.

The American Society of Human Genetics, (ASHG) has compiled the Guide to North American Graduate and Postgraduate Training Programs in Human Genetics and this guide is available on their website. This invaluable guide was compiled by the Information and Education Committee of the ASHG, primarily as an aid to the undergraduate students, graduate students, and house officers who are contemplating careers in human genetics. As its name implies, the Guide deals with programs in the United States and Canada that offer graduate and postgraduate training specifically designed to prepare individuals for careers in human genetics. This Guide also indicates programs that are accredited by the American Board of Medical Genetics (ABMG). Also included are program director's names, addresses and phone numbers to assist you in making contact. Programs that offer courses in human genetics as part of curricular in medicine, dentistry, nursing, social work, medical technology, or other disciplines are not included.

Please note: Information listed is provided by the program director on a voluntary basis. Not all programs are listed here. We suggest that you contact the program directly for information on accreditation status.
