Description:
The American Board of Medical Genetics (ABMG) is seeking applicants for the position of Executive Director (ED); this is a part time position. Karla Matteson, Ph.D.,
our current ED, will be retiring from this position on December 31, 2009. Preference will be given to current or former ABMG directors; the experience gained while a director on the Board is invaluable to this position.
The ED promotes the major initiatives of the Board, represents the Board before other professional organizations, and carries out the mission, goals and policies of the Board. The ED is responsible to the Directors of the Board and reports directly to the President. The term of
office will be two years with the possibility of renewal. Expected start date is July 1, 2009 so that there will be a 6 month overlap with Dr. Matteson.
Qualifications:
Successful candidates must have effective communication skills, be an ABMG diplomate in good standing, and have considerable experience in the practice and administrative aspects of the specialty of genetics. Potential
applicants need not reside in the Washington, DC metro area, but must be willing to spend sufficient time physically in the Administrative Office to carry out the duties of the ED. Although, this is a part time position it requires travel to the board office, board
meetings as well as other meetings.
