Fees & Deadlines


 

Fees

 

All fees must be paid by one of the following methods of payment: check (in US currency) made payable to the American Board of Medical Genetics or MasterCard or Visa. ALL FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE.

Application Review Fee

All application review fees must accompany the application. Fees for all first-time applicants, ABMG diplomates seeking certification in another specialty and individuals who have failed to achieve certification in two examination cycles are listed below.


Please note that first-time applicants for ABMG certification, ABMG diplomates seeking certification in an additional specialty(ies), and individuals who have been active candidates but failed to achieve certification in two consecutive examinations must submit the examination fees to the ABMG Administrative Office upon notification of active candidate status.

Re-Application Review Fee

Fee for all individuals who have been active candidates, but who failed to achieve certification in one cycle and who are re-applicants within one examination cycle:

Please note that individuals who have been active candidates but who failed to achieve certification in one cycle and who are re-applicants within one examination cycle must submit the examination fees with the application and the re-application fee.

 

Late Application Review Fee

Additional fee for any Certification Examination Program Application Password Request Form, and the Notarized Application Statement, postmarked between December 1, 2008 and December 31, 2008: $250

Deadline for Applications

 

The electronic portions of the application must be completed online no later than November 28, 2008. All required fees, documents, letters of endorsement, and other non-electronic materials must be submitted to the ABMG Administrative Office and must be postmarked no later than November 28, 2008.
 

Late Submission: The Certification Examination Program Application Password Request Form and Notarized Application Statement must be postmarked between December 1, 2008 and December 31, 2008 and must include a late fee.
 

Any Certification Examination Program Application Password Request Form and Notarized Application Statement that are postmarked January 1, 2009 or later will be returned to the applicant without review.
 

Notification of Receipt of Applications:

  1. Applicants will be notified of receipt of his or her application via e-mail.
     

  2. The ABMG Administrative Office cannot respond to individual inquiries regarding receipt of other application materials. Applicants should send any required written materials via a guaranteed delivery service such as the United States Postal Service certified mail with a return receipt of delivery. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure on-time delivery of the application.


 

Request to Withdraw

 

If an approved applicant withdraws from the examination, examination fees will not be refunded. ALL FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE. Active candidate status is not maintained after examination results are released. Such applicants must reapply for active candidate status. Applicants are required to achieve certification within two consecutive examination cycles. Once an applicant has achieved active candidate status, his or her credentials and logbook are good for two cycles. Withdrawing from an examination cycle is considered to be a failure to achieve certification during that cycle.
